Seeking a contract newspaper page editor and designer. Turnaround on newspaper deadlines is short and delivering on deadline is crucial. In summary, the print page editor is responsible for the visual quality of the printed pages, ensuring content is well-organized, visually appealing and error-free before sending pages to the printer.

Some specific duties include:

Quality Control: The page editor will review the final page proofs to check for errors or issues before sending pages to print.
Page Layout: Ensure all elements are correctly aligned and formatted to template specifications. The page editor may have to design or redesign a page on the fly if necessary, so InDesign skills need to be on point.
Page editing: Ensure the final printed material (headlines, cutlines, etc.) is accurate and polished. This is not a copyediting role, stories will be edited prior to design.
Integration of Visual Elements: Oversee the quality of photographs, illustrations and graphics and final page PDFs.
Adherence to Style: Ensure content adheres to the template style and formatting standards.
Managing Deadlines: Page editors are responsible for managing their part of the production schedule, making sure that pages are completed on time for print.

To succeed in this role, you will need to be a self-starter to work from your home office and have excellent time-management, communication and organizational skills. You need to have the ability to work well under pressure and you must have experience in journalism.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or equivalent experience.

This is a part-time, remote position working in tandem (and bantering on Slack like a traditional newsroom) with employees and contractors based in the U.S. and internationally.
