We are looking for a reliable, sharp, and scientifically literate All-Around Science Writer to join our remote team. The role involves writing short, accessible summaries (~400 words max) of recent peer-reviewed studies in fields such as physics, nanotechnology, biology, chemistry, archaeology, computer science, and other fields.

This is an ongoing freelance opportunity, and we are looking to work with someone on a long-term basis. Ideally, you’ll be available Monday through Friday to cover 2–3 stories per day, but we’re also open to candidates interested in writing 1 story per day.

What you’ll do:

Write concise and highly accurate science summaries (max 400 words each).
Base your summary on a specific scientific paper, with additional context provided.
Submit clean drafts that require minimal editing.
Turn around assignments quickly — ideally returning a draft on the same day.
Write all content in Associated Press (AP) style.

What we provide:

The original scientific paper.
Supporting third-party articles and media coverage.
An AI-generated summary of the study’s core findings.
Clear daily assignments, sent around 5:00 AM ET each weekday.

Important:
All articles must be written manually by you. We have strict detection measures in place and do not accept AI-generated content. Submissions found to be written or heavily assisted by AI tools will be rejected, and collaboration with the writer will be terminated.

Compensation:

$30 per accepted story, paid monthly.
While writing each summary requires focus and attention to detail, especially at the beginning, most writers find that after getting used to the format and materials, each story typically takes around 1.5 hours to complete.

Requirements:

Proven experience writing about science for a general audience.
Strong command of English and scientific accuracy.
Excellent grasp of AP style.
Ability to meet tight deadlines and respond quickly to new assignments.
Background in science, journalism, or a related field.

This is a remote, contract-based position. You can be located anywhere as long as you can reliably meet deadlines. We’re especially interested in candidates seeking stable, long-term collaboration.
