Job Overview:
The editor of BirdWatching will spearhead the relaunch of the print magazine under its new ownership. Relaunching as a quarterly title, the Editor will be busy assigning, editing and planning all the content to fill the pages of each issue. The editor will write articles as needed, especially for the website, while also working with marketing, content marketing to help promote the brand through written articles, videos, infographics, and other communications. The editor will also lead the process of contest judging, while being the face of the brand on social media and at any in-person events.

Duties:

Manage editorial content for magazine.
Create editorial lineup and page map for each issue.
Write Editor’s Note for each issue.
Manage core staff of freelancers; including responding to submissions inquiries, hiring, payment agreements and editorial contracts.
Oversee editorial budget, making sure to stay within budget and on deadline.
Post digital-only and print stories on the website.
Coordinate with Design on selection of cover image, cover sell lines, features, departments, and overall visual package of the magazine
Coordinate with Marketing on presenting quarterly webinars.
Coordinate with Marketing on judging and creating contests
Contribute to and attend industry events.
All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Social media fluency.
Bachelor’s degree required.
Understanding of digital media trends and strategies.
5+ years’ experience in the magazine or publishing industry.
Experience working with various email marketing software.
Experience working with CMS system, preferably WordPress
Excellent proofreading skills with a meticulous attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively collaborate with team members.
