Overview
The Clinton Daily News, located in Clinton, Okla., has an opening for a managing editor in its newsroom. The newspaper is independently owned, and all decisions are made in house. The work week features typical business hours Monday through Friday with the occasional evening meeting to attend. The newspaper publishes a print edition five days a week.

Responsibilities

Lead the newsroom to bring readers the news they can't get anywhere else.
Edit articles for clarity, grammar, style, and content.
Collaborate with writers to enhance their writing and photography skills while providing constructive feedback to inspire and teach.
Must contribute daily stories and photos to each edition.
Ensure all content is thoroughly proofread before publication to maintain high standards of quality.
Manage deadlines and workflow within the newsroom, ensuring timely delivery of all materials.
Will be asked to contribute to all special sections and magazines, etc. produced by the newspaper.
Maintain a positive presence within the community.
Develop into an assistant publisher role to cover when publisher is out of the office or on vacation.

Experience

Proven experience in journalism or editorial roles, with a strong portfolio showcasing writing, photography and editing skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Photoshop is preferred. InDesign is a plus, but not necessary as long as there is a strong understanding of proper layout principles.
Strong proofreading abilities with attention to detail.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Candidates must have experience in the field of journalism. This is a good opportunity for a rookie managing editor to earn their way working for a daily newspaper or for a veteran seeking to add their expertise to a solid, stable publication.
