The Kerrville Daily Times is seeking a detail-oriented, resourceful, and deadline-driven Assistant Editor to join our editorial team. This position supports the editorial process from planning to publication, ensuring high standards of accuracy, style, and tone across all content. The Assistant Editor will collaborate with writers, reporters, and senior editors to produce compelling, informative, and engaging news content for our print and digital platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist in planning and coordinating daily, weekly, and monthly editorial schedules
Review, proofread, and edit articles for clarity, grammar, tone, and adherence to style guidelines (e.g., AP Style)
Collaborate with reporters, freelancers, and contributors to refine content and meet deadlines
Research and fact-check stories to ensure journalistic accuracy and integrity
Write headlines, subheads, captions, and other supporting content as needed
Work closely with the design and layout team to ensure articles are properly formatted and visually engaging
Monitor breaking news and suggest timely topics or content updates
Assist in managing editorial calendars and tracking the progress of stories
Occasionally write news or feature articles when needed

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or related field
2–4 years of experience in editing, journalism, or related roles (experience in a newsroom is preferred)
Strong editing, grammar, and writing skills with a keen eye for detail
Knowledge of AP Style and standard editorial practices
Ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines and adapt to fast-changing priorities
Proficiency with content management systems (e.g., WordPress), Microsoft Office, and editorial tools
Excellent communication and organizational skills
A passion for quality journalism and current events

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $39,000.00 - $43,000.00 per year
