Are you looking to join a dynamic, growing organization? Are you a motivated self-starter who wants to showcase your phenomenal editing skills? If so, we need to talk.
Integrity Risk International is a leader in the evolution, growth, and delivery of risk management services. We are actively looking for an Entry Level Editor to join our team in Reston, VA. The Editor works independently to ensure consistency and accuracy in writing style and clarity in our reports. The Editor will conduct thorough reviews of grammatical, spelling, and punctuation usage on a variety of narrative (not technical) writing pieces, and check for inconsistencies, factual errors, and contradictions within the overall content of the pieces. This position requires a high level of attention to detail as well as excellent reading and writing comprehension, a thorough knowledge of English grammar and spelling, and the ability to meet at-times tight deadlines. The ideal candidate must work well in a team environment and be adaptable to change. Excellent communications skills are a must, as is the ability to clearly identify and articulate issues of importance. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with excellent benefits (e.g., health insurances (medical, dental, vision), and paid time off).
What you will do:
- Perform a thorough editorial review of copy to identify spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and grammatical errors on a variety of writing pieces. Additionally, the review will look at a multitude of other factors such as sentence structure, word choice, paragraph length and continuity of content. Focus will also be on individual words, to include rewriting sections to improve the clarity of a sentence.
- Perform detailed content review of copy to identify factual errors and contradictions, as well as the need for necessary background and context. This may involve suggesting rewrites that are necessary to improve the overall flow of the content and asking questions to ensure all required context and details are included and well-presented.
- For certain reports, synthesize and smooth content from multiple authors into one document, ensure a well-composed syntax, track changes effectively, and maintain accurate versioning records in preparation for final review by the Senior Editor or a VP.
- Work closely with team members throughout the lifecycle of a project, to include providing feedback – mainly written but, when necessary, orally – on deliverables and being aware of client requirements and/or the research process to help formulate accurate reports.
- Ensure that high-quality deliverables targeted at a professional, business-oriented audience (finance, legal, and commercial sectors) are produced while working within budget and deadlines.
- Develop and maintain company writing style guidelines and report templates.
What you bring:
Bachelor’s degree in English, Technical Writing, or related degree.
At least 1-2 years of editing experience; will accept time spent with a college publication or as an intern.
Experienced with Microsoft Office Products (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint), including Review Track Changes and editing tools.
Meticulous proofreading skills, attention to detail, and keen sense of focus on producing high-quality deliverables.
Professional presence and ability to work with cross-functional teams, to include being able to provide feedback comfortably and capably – both written and orally – to researchers about their work.
Flexible and able to manage and prioritize projects simultaneously with a high sense of urgency in meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
