Clutch is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Freelance Pharma Copy Editor with prior experience working within a marketing or advertising agency setting, with pharmaceutical clients. This role will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, clarity, grammar, style, and regulatory compliance of a wide range of pharmaceutical marketing and communication materials.
Responsibilities:
- Thoroughly review and edit pharmaceutical marketing materials, including but not limited to: websites, brochures, print advertisements, digital banners, email campaigns, video scripts, sales training materials, and medical education content.
- Ensure all content adheres to strict AMA style guidelines, client-specific style guides, and relevant regulatory guidelines (e.g., FDA, EMA).
- Verify the accuracy of medical and scientific information, including claims, data, and references, flagging any inconsistencies or potential issues.
- Correct errors in grammar, punctuation, spelling, syntax, and sentence structure to ensure polished and professional final copy.
- Check for consistency in tone, voice, branding, and messaging across all materials.
- Collaborate effectively with writers, art directors, account managers, and other agency team members to ensure projects are completed accurately and on time.
- Provide constructive feedback to writers to improve the quality and clarity of their work.
- Manage workload and deadlines effectively in a fast-paced freelance environment.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current pharmaceutical marketing regulations and industry best practices.
- Utilize agency-specific workflows and tools for project management and communication.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience (3+ years preferred) as a professional copy editor, specifically within a marketing or advertising agency, with a strong focus on pharmaceutical clients.
- Exceptional command of the English language, grammar, punctuation, spelling, and style.
- Deep understanding of AMA (American Medical Association) style guidelines and the ability to apply them consistently.
- Thorough knowledge of pharmaceutical marketing regulations and compliance requirements (e.g., FDA regulations for prescription drug advertising and promotion).
- Ability to interpret and verify medical and scientific information with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with legal and regulatory review processes within pharmaceutical advertising.
- Strong attention to detail and a meticulous approach to reviewing and editing complex information.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines in a freelance setting.
- Proficiency in using standard word processing software (e.g., Microsoft Word) and familiarity with online collaboration tools.
- Ability to work independently and proactively, taking ownership of assigned tasks.
