About Highland Lakes Canine Rescue:
HLCR specializes in rescuing abandoned, injured, and at-risk dogs that other shelters may not be equipped to help. We give medically and behaviorally complex dogs the second chance they deserve by offering care, rehabilitation, and adoption support. Our mission focuses on saving the most vulnerable—what we call “Diamonds in the Ruff.”
Job Summary:
We’re hiring a Shelter Marketing and Digital Content Specialist to lead our external messaging, manage digital content, and support internal operations. This position combines nonprofit communications, social media strategy, and office administration in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment where every task helps dogs find hope and healing.
Key Responsibilities:
· Create and manage engaging content for Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Nextdoor, and other platforms that highlight adoptable dogs, success stories, events, and shelter life.
· Write and design email newsletters, donor updates, dog profiles, blog posts, printed materials, and short videos.
· Develop and maintain a communications and marketing calendar tied to adoption events, donor campaigns, and the shelter’s rescue milestones.
· Assist with fundraising event marketing, sponsorship outreach, and printed/digital media needs.
· Maintain organized files and shelter records (digital and hardcopy) using platforms like Shelterluv, Dropbox, and Google Drive.
· Provide administrative support to the Executive Director and staff, including email correspondence, document management, and inventory tracking.
· Occasionally support shelter operations or dog care as needed.
Qualifications:
· Strong writing and editing skills with a knack for storytelling and nonprofit marketing
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Canva, Mailchimp, WordPress, social media platforms, and cloud-based tools
· Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
· Compassionate team player comfortable working in a dog shelter environment
· High school diploma or equivalent required (college or relevant experience a plus)
· Valid Texas driver’s license and insurable driving record
Compensation & Benefits:
· $19.00 – $21.00 per hour based on experience
