About the Role

We’re looking for a creative and detail-obsessed Digital Copywriter who is passionate about words and ready to shape how we connect with audiences across social media and email. This is a highly visible role supporting a mission-driven content engine—starting with Instagram and evolving into our high-performing email program, which drives a significant portion of the organization's fundraising revenue.

You’ll lead on writing copy for static social posts and captions, transforming long-form research into engaging, bite-sized content. As the sole dedicated copywriter, you’ll collaborate across departments, bring strategic campaigns to life (think: shopper’s guides, sunscreen initiatives), and help translate real-time insights from social into compelling email content.

This is not a publishing or reporting role—we’re looking for someone whose craft is copywriting and who lives to turn complex topics into impactful, human-centered messaging.

Key Responsibilities

Write compelling, audience-focused social media copy (primarily Instagram), including post captions, static text, and campaign content
Read and distill long-form articles and studies into digestible, engaging posts
Collaborate cross-functionally (e.g., government affairs, creative, email, fundraising) to align messaging across platforms
Develop and adapt email copy that reflects organizational voice and drives supporter engagement and donations
Contribute to monthly content planning and keep the social/email content engine moving forward
Monitor what’s resonating on social and translate that success into email messaging
Ensure tone, grammar, and style are consistent and error-free across all content
Participate in content meetings, bring creative ideas, and support storytelling efforts with a strong written voice

Must-Have Qualifications

2–3 years of copywriting experience, ideally across email, social, and web platforms
Portfolio showcasing writing samples in social media and email (no design needed—words matter most)
Exceptional attention to detail—no typos or grammar issues in resume or samples
Strong creative writing skills; able to turn complex, technical, or scientific topics into clear, relatable content
Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage multiple projects
Passionate about words and eager to grow with a high-impact content team
Comfortable writing for audiences at scale and translating abstract goals into tangible language
Experience writing for Instagram (including captions; video scripting is a bonus, but not required)

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

Background in proofreading or editing, with high attention to detail (not a must—creativity is key)
Experience writing in complex or technical environments (e.g., legal, healthcare, science)
Knowledge of storytelling best practices for mission-driven or fundraising campaigns
Familiarity with how email and social media content can complement each other to support campaign goals
