Job Overview
We are a boutique college counseling and test prep center operating out of two centers in Newport Beach and San Juan Capistrano looking to hire remote writers to assist our college counselors (and potentially become remote college counselors if they so choose, however note that the job is primarily writing).
Most of our clients are pushing T20 schools (Harvard, Stanford, Yale, UPenn, Cal, etc.), and we pride ourselves on being the best of the best. Admission is never guaranteed, but we can give them the best shot possible.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong command of language and an ability to engage diverse audiences through various forms of written content--primarily application assistance and essay writing (think creative nonfiction memoirs that also happen to be "Let me into your school" arguments). This role requires creativity, attention to detail, and a commitment to producing high-quality work that adheres to established narrative guidelines and styles.
Hours: Flexbile. Effectively, we’ll take all the hours we can get.
Pay: $29-$40 hourly. Based on the following factors.

2. Experience
3. Availability.
Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough research to ensure accuracy and depth in all writing assignments.
- Write and edit proposals that effectively communicate project goals and objectives.
- Teach students how to organize their writing, focusing on pulling out important details and elements to help them craft unique, impactful essays.
- Use the Hero’s Journey framework (or other essay structures, when applicable) to guide students through the process of creating cohesive, compelling narratives. This includes:
- Hook: A strong opening that captures attention.
- Rising Action: Building tension or suspense throughout the essay while developing a personal character narrative.
- Transformation/Aha! Moment: Identifying key turning points or realizations that enhance the narrative, leading to personal transformation.
- The Resume/Return: Ensuring students can effectively show how their transformation has led to meaningful impact or personal growth.
- Reflection: Introspection and exploration of lessons learned.
- Looking Forward/Wrap Back to Hook: Helping students tie the conclusion back to the opening, creating a sense of closure and continuity.
- Collaborate with team members to brainstorm ideas and develop creative concepts.
- Perform copy editing and proofreading to ensure clarity, coherence, and grammatical correctness in all documents.
- Fact-check information to maintain credibility and reliability in all written pieces.
- Revise content based on feedback from peers or supervisors while maintaining the original intent of the message.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in writing, with a portfolio showcasing diverse writing samples.
- Strong skills in creative writing, copywriting, proposal writing, and research methodologies.
- Expertise in essay structure, particularly with the Hero’s Journey framework and the use of descriptive language to create engaging narratives.
- Excellent attention to detail with strong copy editing and proofreading abilities.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
- A passion for storytelling and a keen interest in engaging readers through innovative content creation.

I will review your resume and sample. If the sample passes review, we’ll move onto an interview, where the terms of the offer are set, followed by a single working interview (writing assignment, paid, typically 2 hours). If the working interview goes well, the offer is then made.
