The Great Plains Conference of The United Methodist Church is seeking a Multimedia Content Specialist to help advance our mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
In this dynamic role, you'll serve as the primary creator and innovator of video and multimedia content across our digital platforms. From producing compelling video stories that highlight discipleship in action to supporting churches and staff with training and creative direction, you'll play a vital role in how we communicate and connect across Kansas and Nebraska—and beyond.

Salary Range: $58,000 – $75,000

Location: Topeka, KS
Core job objectives (Not limited to):
- Provide high-quality video to further the mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
- Provide training and feedback to help staff and churches make best use of video to meet the needs of their mission fields.
- Write scripts, stories, newsletters, social media posts, and/or website copy.
- Build positive relationships with key conference stakeholders.
- Be fully participatory in meetings and activities of the communications team.
- Display continuous improvement.
Core job tasks to accomplish job objectives (Not limited to):
- Serve as the primary producer of video/multimedia content for the conference website and social media.
- Train other staff members in the shooting of basic videos, such as stand-ups, for use on social media and as part of other projects, including the conference website.
- Investigate sources outside the conference for multimedia content.
- Provide innovative direction on the best uses of video content for districts, networks and, by extension, local churches.
- Shoot and produce stories that share best practices of discipleship in the Great Plains Conference and beyond.
- Prepare for multi-camera production and recording of conference and district events.
- Lead the effort on livestreaming for conference and district events.
- Ensure multimedia production work is adequately archived.
- Produce written copy for the conference website, social media and other forms of media to assist with storytelling, congregational training, and staff enrichment.
- Train staff on appropriate care for equipment so gear is maintained in proper working order.
- Stay up-to-date on software and equipment for video shooting, editing, and preservation.
- Work with conference staff members to support achievement of goals pertinent to their areas of focus.
- Provide excellent customer service to other staff members and people seeking assistance from the conference.
- Edit work to ensure it conforms to a high standard of grammar, overall content and presentation.
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with key conference stakeholders as needed to meet job expectations.
- Actively participate in the application of lessons learned for continuous improvement.
- Ensure personal effectiveness, efficiency and alignment, as well as continuous improvement.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications (Not limited to):
- Two- or four-year degree in communications or experience in the fields of communications or journalism. Appplicants with marketing experience also will be considered.
- Be sympathetic to the Christian faith and The United Methodist Church.
- Willingness to engage in an environment of continuous learning, particularly about the workings and operations of the worldwide United Methodist denomination.
- Aptitude for Adobe Creative Suite software, particularly Premiere Pro, PhotoShop, After Effects and Audition, or similar software.
- A basic understanding of livestreaming software and end-user experience.
- Working knowledge of social media apps such as Facebook and Instagram.
- Possess the ability to work effectively with representatives of church and secular communities.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills.
- Ability to work independently and with a team.
- Willingness to be certified within our Safe Gatherings program to allow for engaging with children and vulnerable adults.
Job-Related Physical Requirements (Not limited to):
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to lift 30 pounds due to the equipment we use regularly.
- Must be able to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.
- Operate office equipment such as computers and accessories, phone system, copier and AV equipment.
- This position requires travel across Kansas and Nebraska, with occasional duties beyond the boundaries of the Great Plains Conference.
