The American Gastroenterological Association with assistance from Knighten Health built an interactive, web-based tool for patients living with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that empowers them to participate in shared decision-making with their medical provider. This innovative web-based app aims to empower patients by providing them with personalized medication recommendations, which they can then discuss with their healthcare providers. The application does not provide medical advice but presents patients with a custom list of medications to foster informed discussions with their healthcare team. 

IBD—ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease—is characterized by chronic inflammation of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Prolonged inflammation results in damage to the GI tract. Although there are many treatment options with the potential to achieve remission of the disease, selecting the appropriate treatment involves several complex factors including which disease a person has, age, disease severity, treatment history, and comorbidities. In addition, many patients don’t respond, lose response over time, or have adverse reactions to treatments.

The AGA IBD Drug Guide has two main pathways: 

An algorithm to provide personalized recommendations based on existing IBD management guidelines (see below) 
Direct access to a library of IBD drugs with pertinent drug and indication information

The tool was developed by a multidisciplinary team of health care providers (HCPs), patients, and patient advocates.

Job description:

Perform quarterly research on established attributes of new FDA-approved IBD drugs (e.g. drug indications, mechanism of action, contraindications, etc.)
Write brief, bulleted descriptions of required attributes at no more than an 8-grade reading level that match the style of existing drug information in the Drug Guide.
Work efficiently to perform reviews within budgeted time.

Requirements

PharmD or MD degree required.
Available to commit to one quarter of drug review, with possibility to renew long-term.
Experienced with Microsoft Office products, including Teams and SharePoint.
Comfortable and experienced reading and understanding pharmaceutical inserts, indications, and other information
Experienced in extracting information relevant to consumers from pharmaceutical inserts and other sources of information.
Meticulous and detail oriented.
