Managing Editor

The Centre County Gazette seeks a full-time, enthusiastic and versatile managing editor with a passion for community-driven news. This editor will oversee weekly coverage of the news and events in Centre County, including developing story leads and writing articles for a local leadership. A familiarity with Centre County is desirable. The Centre County Gazette is committed to building a diverse newsroom that reflects the audience it serves. The managing editor is encouraged to present refreshing new ideas in our weekly production meetings.

The managing editor must be able to:

Juggle multiple assignments and duties in a fast paced, deadline-driven work environment.
Manage multiple freelance writers and photographers.
Accurately produce well-written content for our publication, including telling complex stories with context and perspective.
Post engaging content on various social media platforms.
Shoot digital news photos.
Develop sources and resources, generate story ideas and meet deadlines, placing the utmost emphasis on balanced reporting and high ethical standards.

Qualifications:

Candidates should have a bachelor's degree (journalism preferred) and 5+ years of experience in content creation or editing. They should possess an excellent grasp of the English language, demonstrate great communication skills, show initiative and exercise good news judgement.

Other requirements of the positions include:

Working the equivalent of a 5-day, 40-hour week, which may include events and weekend coverage.

Handling daily, short-term and long-term tasks simultaneously.

Possessing a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
