Our non-profit client is currently seeking a Content Copywriter / Editor to join their team on a part time freelance basis.
You will work 2 days per week in the NYC office and 1 day per week remotely - total 20 hours per week. You must have your own laptop
The Web Content Writer/Editor will write, edit and help manage website content about the organization's legal and policy work and will play an important role in developing user-friendly content for the organizations new website launching later this year.
The Web Content Writer and Editor will report to the Website Editor in Chief and be part of the digital team in the communications department. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills with the ability to translate complex topics into approachable, easy-to-read content; have experience writing Web content and using WordPress or a similar web platform; and have a proven ability to multitask and independently manage numerous deadlines and projects.
Primary Responsibilities
"Write, edit and proofread web content to ensure it clearly conveys the organization's messaging, work and expertise and is approachable to a non-legal audience.
"Write and edit content on the Centers work including court cases, policy advocacy, and research highlighting its impact and main takeaways.
"Ensure content is written to reflect best web and SEO practices. Suggest ways to improve and enhance content.
"Develop educational explainers and other content to educate lay audiences on reproductive rights and health issues.
"Collaborate with supervisor to develop editorial content plans. Create and manage content schedules and calendars.
"Work with web coordinator on content placement and related updates to ensure 100% accuracy as well as effective layout of posts.
"Help ensure various regions, issues and work are well represented on the site.
"Help select images that adhere to organization guidelines and convey overall message Coordinate with colleagues in other departments and regions to ensure relevant website sections are regularly updated.
"Serve as backup to web coordinator in posting/editing web content using WordPress.
"Help QA and proof webpages.
"Provide input on other communications projects when needed.
Qualifications
"Bachelors degree in communications or related field or equivalent experience.
"Minimum of five years of experience in content writing and editing.
"Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills. Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail.
"Ability to translate complex topics into accessible, compelling content for a lay audience.
"Experience writing for the web, including knowledge of SEO best practices.
"Experience updating websites using WordPress or a similar platform.
"Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
"Experience in creating and managing content schedules.
"Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build productive working relationships.
"Ability to effectively work independently as well as part of a team.
Pluses
"Knowledge of or experience in legal, government or policy matters and/or domestic and global reproductive rights issues.
"Experience using WordPress Block Editor.
Technical Skills
"Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint); WordPress or another web platform
