*This role requires a hybrid schedule and will be based in our New York City Office (Tuesday through Thursday) and work fully remotely on Monday and Friday each week.
At A Glance
We are looking for a creative and detail-oriented Associate Digital Content Editor to join our editorial team. This role focuses on shaping daily and weekly travel coverage, including destination stories and cultural trends. You’ll also support editorial workflows and communications with a sharp eye for process and organization. The ideal candidate is an exceptional writer/editor with a passion for travel journalism, strong editorial instincts, and solid administrative experience working across digital platforms.
What You'll Do
Editorial:
- Edit and write seasonal and trend-driven travel content that is timely, accurate, and engaging.
- Edit for clarity, accuracy, tone, and brand style, using SEO best practices and performance data.
- Update evergreen content and contribute to special editorial packages.
- Monitor global news and social media for relevant travel updates, emerging topics, and story opportunities.
- Collaborate with freelance editors in Slack and Asana to answer their questions and refine content.
- Coordinate with the photography team to source images and other visual assets.
- Occasionally write copy for Lonely Planet’s social channels to push out digital content.
Administrative & Workflow:
- Manage the editorial pitch process, including reviewing and updating the weekly writer pitch form.
- Oversee the digital publishing calendar on Asana, including drafting, publishing and scheduling content in the content management system (CMS) and collaborating with editors to readjust deadlines when needed.
- Record daily published articles in the digital content report document and report to the broader team on Slack.
- Manage the Google Content Calendar spreadsheet export to the Digital Content Asana board, tracking assignments, contacting editors with queries about scheduling as directed by the senior content team.
- Update and maintain the Lonely Planet contributor database on a weekly basis (or more or less frequently as workflows dictate), including both print and digital contributors, and build and update author bio pages in the CMS.
What We’re Looking For
- A strong writer and editor with a passion for travel and a solid understanding of digital storytelling.
- 1–3 years of editorial experience, ideally in travel, lifestyle, or culture-focused content.
- Strong command of AP style and the ability to apply it consistently.
- Familiarity with SEO best practices and analytics tools such as Google Analytics or Looker.
- Experience working with content management systems (CMS) and editorial workflow tools such as Asana, Airtable, or similar platforms.
- Outstanding attention to detail, organization, and time management skills.
- Ability to juggle multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Clear, proactive communicator who thrives in a collaborative, remote work setting.
- Bonus points for experience working with freelance contributors or managing editorial calendars.
Compensation
NYC Cash Compensation Range: $55,000 - $60,000
*Note actual salary is based on geographic location, qualifications, and experience.
