Summary
Position Overview:Mecum Auctions is seeking a skilled and meticulous Copy Editor to oversee and approve all public-facing messaging produced by the company. The Copy Editor is responsible for ensuring all advertising, media communications, articles, press releases, and other messaging are exceptionally clean, clear, and error-free before distribution or publication and that all messaging is in alignment with the company's mission, voice, and brand. This role will involve working closely with and reporting directly to Mecum Auctions’ managing editor.
Key Responsibilities:
- Copy edit marketing emails, advertisements, press releases, articles, and more, serving as an essential step in the approval of public-facing materials before they’re published or distributed
- Ensure grammar, spelling, and punctuation are accurate on everything Mecum Auctions produces
- Maintain consistency across all communications regarding formatting, overall flow, tone, etc.
- Improve the clarity and accuracy of texts as necessary
- Copy edit material with attention to legality and privacy concerns
- Ensure the correct fonts, banners, and other digital and photographic elements are used in all Mecum media
- Copy edit with precision and accuracy using AP Style and Mecum’s own internal style guide, utilizing standard proofreader's marks
- Update and maintain Mecum’s internal style guide as necessary to align with industry standards and general readability
- Ensure the voice of the copy remains on-brand throughout editing and across all platforms and materials
- Identify inconsistencies and other content problems, ensuring these issues are addressed and corrected
- Write original text as necessary for use in various materials
- Suggest improvements for processes and materials within the scope of the copy editing role
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in a copy editing role is required
- A degree in a related field is preferred
- Prior advertising or direct marketing experience is preferred
