Overview
At Obscura Zine, we’re revolutionizing the fashion industry with bold but educated opinions, oddball editorials, and watchdog reporting. We throw out the norm – because fashion must be a two-way conversation, unswayed by the industry. Now, it’s your turn to join the conversation.
Job Description
Obscura Zine is looking for Fashion and Culture Writers to contribute to our digital publication through investigative and data-driven pieces, runway reviews, well-executed critiques, personalized monthly columns, and more. This role offers the opportunity to make an impact in fashion journalism, build experience in your personal portfolio, and the potential for future growth as we expand.
This is a part-time, unpaid position, which can be utilized as Internship credit for students studying journalism, fashion, marketing or other relevant degree programs. This position is remote, with the option to attend and cover events as needed. Approximately 2-10 hours a week depending on scope of work, skill and availability.
Qualifications
- Highly analytical critical-thinking skills
- Deep-cut knowledge or passion for fashion, trends, textiles, and how the industry intersects with society
- Previous experience with journalistic writing (AP Style) is preferred, but not required
- Strong curiosity for the way the industry works and how the world at large interacts with fashion
Responsibilities
- Pitch and report 2-5 engaging, thought-provoking stories every month related to fashion and culture
- Expertise in understanding storytelling, engaging copy, in-depth industry knowledge and understanding story angles aligned with the Obscura brand
- Collaborate with editors and core editorial team to ensure content is aligned across platforms and mediums (text, video, photo, etc.)
- Build your professional network and establish relationships with internal and external partners in the industry including, but not limited to: designers, writers, stylists, retailers, buyers, producers, PR representatives, research assistants, and more
About The Company
Obscura is your one-stop watering hole for both objective news reporting and oddball editorials with a human-first approach. Through our reporting, we are sparking conversations in our open forums that are unswayed by the industry. Informing, observing, creating and investigating are what we do by centering content on market needs rather than individual brands.
