PathologyOutlines.com, now in its 24th year, seeks a Format Editor to work 5 days a week, 20-30 hours total, no nights or weekends. This position can be remote, but your hours should be between 8 and 5 Eastern time. Meticulous attention to detail is mandatory; prior training or experience demonstrating that you have this capability is important. A science or biology background is also helpful. Someone with basic HTML experience is preferred.
We publish a free online pathology textbook, written by university professors and peer-reviewed by outside editors, paid for by advertising. Please note, in this position you will not create content. You will be formatting content using HTML and editing content in our CMS (content management system) with the task of maintaining a uniform format across our 4,600 topics.
Your responsibilities include:
- Applying our website's formatting rules (both HTML and grammar) to each newly published page.
- Checking and correcting the work of other employees to ensure compliance with our standards.
- Converting pathology topics from Word documents to HTML.
- Updating miscellaneous website pages.
- Additional responsibilities based on ability.v

- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Experience editing text in a technical field
This is a great job if flexibility is needed. The rate is $20.00 per hour. At hiring, we provide reimbursement of health insurance through Blue Cross, up to $4550 per year. After 3 months, you are eligible for our quarterly profit-sharing bonus (if applicable). At 6 months, we provide 2 weeks of annual paid vacation. At 1 year, we provide a company funded 401(k) and a cash pension retirement plan. At 2 years, we provide 4 weeks of annual paid vacation. Other benefits are paid holidays, a comfortable quiet workspace and monthly office lunches (if local). The office includes 24 other individuals (most employees are part-time) and is located on Telegraph Road between 12 and 13 Mile in Bingham Farms, Michigan, although most employees work remotely.
You will be working with Apple computers (in the office) using HTML/CSS, Google Apps (Mail, Docs, Calendar), basic image editing, Internet browsers (Safari, Firefox and Chrome), Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and BBEdit (text editor).
