General Description
Under administrative direction, incumbent is responsible for developing and managing engaging social media content that fosters an interactive relationship between the community and the Miami Gardens Police Department. This role focuses on enhancing the Department’s online presence, building strong social media communities, and aligning content with the agency’s goals and objectives. Analyzes social media platforms, adjust strategies, create new content, and update existing materials to increase outreach effectiveness. This position involves considerable independent judgment within established guidelines.
Essential Job Functions

Collaborate with Agency Staff: Work closely with internal teams to align branding, media, and community outreach efforts with the department’s goals and objectives.
Create Content Across Platforms: Develop and curate diverse content for social media channels including Facebook, Instagram, X (Twitter), YouTube, and TikTok (posts, stories, status updates, photos, videos, and pins).
Design Crime Prevention Materials: Create written and visual content, including newsletters, crime prevention materials, and employee highlights. Handle the copywriting, editing, and creative design process.
Develop and Manage Social Media Campaigns: Execute content plans, ensuring engaging, timely, and effective communication through all social media platforms.
Collaborate on Marketing Plans: Partner with agency staff to create marketing and communication strategies that leverage social media to engage the community.
Analyze Data & Adjust Strategies: Review social media metrics and analytics to gauge campaign effectiveness. Implement adjustments to improve engagement, reach, and overall performance.
Monitor and Respond to Online Interactions: Engage with followers, managing online conversations and responding in a timely, authentic, and professional manner.
Ensure Consistent Messaging: Maintain consistent and cohesive messaging across all social media platforms and collaborate with other departments to ensure uniform communication.
Manage Editorial Calendar: Develop and maintain a content editorial calendar to manage social media content, including planning specific campaigns.
Utilize Scheduling Tools: Demonstrate proficiency in using social media scheduling tools (e.g., Later, Plann, Hootsuite, Archive Social) to streamline posting and management tasks.
Track Trends and Opportunities: Monitor social media trends and identify opportunities for improvement and innovation in the department’s communication strategies.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging effectively for different audiences and communication channels. Proficient in creating compelling multimedia content using design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, Lightroom, Photoshop, Acrobat) and Canva, with demonstrated experience in video editing, photography, and graphic design to produce engaging and visually consistent content.
Skilled in using Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) to organize, analyze, and communicate information clearly and efficiently. Experienced in navigating and managing major social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Twitter (X), and LinkedIn, as well as utilizing social media management tools such as Hootsuite, Sprout Social, and Archive Social.
Adept at managing online communities by monitoring discussions, responding to public inquiries and feedback, and maintaining a positive and professional relationship with followers. Knowledgeable in handling online crises and reputation management, including responding to negative feedback in a timely and strategic manner. Proficient in using social listening tools to monitor brand sentiment and engagement trends.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines. Strong time management and attention to detail are essential, along with a proactive and solution-oriented approach to problem-solving. Possesses a deep understanding of brand strategy and digital storytelling, with the ability to craft narratives that resonate with target audiences and maintain a consistent voice across platforms. Proficient in Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Search Engine Marketing (SEM), including keyword research, on-page SEO, and content optimization for both social media and websites. Highly collaborative, with the ability to work cross-functionally with departments such as marketing, public relations, and leadership to ensure cohesive, accurate, and aligned messaging. Capable of adjusting quickly in a fast-paced environment and staying current with new trends, tools, and shifts in digital strategy.
Education & Experience Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, or a related field, or a minimum of three (3) years’ experience creating and managing social media content across platforms such as LinkedIn, YouTube, podcasts, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X, and others; to include previous experience using analytics platforms for obtaining data, such as Sprout Social and Google Analytics. Experience with photo/video equipment and multimedia experience preferred. Must have and maintain a valid Florida driver's license with a satisfactory driving history throughout employment. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered. Such experience must be clearly documented on the application for consideration.

The employee must occasionally lift and move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, ability to see in dimmed lighting and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level is quiet to moderately loud. Sometimes work is stressful when working under stringent time constraints. Work is performed in a temperature controlled modern office setting, mostly from a seated position at a modular workstation. May require flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays and during emergency situations
