Our major entertainment/streaming client is seeking a
Managing Editor to to join their team for a 6 month freelance assignment, offering 40 hours/week. This is an onsite role in NYC, with some flexibility for occasional remote days. Los Angeles may be considered for exceptional candidates but is not a focus.
Summary: The Managing Editor will be responsible for our client's editorial calendar, as well as planning and execution of articles and pages. As Managing Editor you will collaborate with copywriters, agencies, freelance writers, creative marketing, content strategy and various stakeholders to publish articles and content for the website and its marketing assets . You will ideate, pitch and foster ideas to launch engaging and data-driven content that supports the goals and objectives of our client's brand.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with global marketing teams to adapt, update, and maintain editorial content across platforms.
- Coordinate with the Content Strategy team to ensure timely coverage of priority content and campaigns.
- Partner with Communications and PR teams to edit and publish special event coverage and real-time content updates.
- Work closely with product and marketing designers to support editorial graphics and enhance user experience.
- Maintain high editorial and visual standards through rigorous QA processes.
- Collaborate with Project Managers to manage global article syndication, editing workflows, and feedback implementation.
- Partner with the Lead Copywriter and SEO Manager to maintain and optimize language guidelines and keyword strategies.
- Oversee proofreading and editing distribution across lead and marketing copywriters.
- Plan and execute editorial reporting and article publishing in partnership with agency teams.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience managing global editorial web and/or social media properties, with a proven track record of increasing engagement and achieving marketing goals.
- Background in working with major digital publications and editorial teams.
- Exceptional collaboration skills with a bridge-building mindset and empathetic communication style.
- Expert-level writing, proofreading, grammar, and editing skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities; capable of clearly articulating creative ideas through documentation and discussion with internal teams and external partners.
- Hands-on experience with enterprise SEO tools and collaboration with SEO specialists.
- Familiarity with global publishing style guides and multilingual content standards.
- Deep passion for the entertainment industry
- Proven ability to manage complex projects across multiple stakeholders and departments.
- Strategic thinker who thrives in ambiguity and adapts to varying working styles.
- Working knowledge of creative asset management systems and experience collaborating with design and creative teams.
Additional Information
- The Managing Editor will focus on editorial voice and operations.
- 5+ years editorial experience, background in digital publishing or social media, strong entertainment industry knowledge, experience managing writers, operational expertise, and strong communication/presentation skills for stakeholder engagement.
- Primary location is the New York office (7 Hudson), with some flexibility for remote work (e.g., Fridays or occasional days), but in-person presence is preferred. Los Angeles may be considered for exceptional candidates but is not a focus.
