The Pet Cancer Foundation’s vision is to increase the life expectancy and improve the quality of life of pets diagnosed with cancer. Estimates currently suggest that approximately 12M dogs and cats are developing cancer every year, which is roughly 6x the number of humans getting cancer yearly within North America.
As the organization continues to work towards the accomplishment of our mission, the PCF team includes professionals contributing virtually across Canada, the United States, and several other countries worldwide. Our team requires skilled and talented writers to create relevant and engaging content that increases awareness, informs and educates our communities about pet health and cancer. About the Position
As a volunteer Content Writer, you will craft engaging, accurate, and audience-focused content that shapes our organization’s narrative. You'll explore industry-related topics, adhering to our style guide to maintain a consistent voice across all materials. Working within an editorial calendar, you'll meet deadlines, collaborate with team members, and incorporate feedback to ensure high-quality content. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact with your writing skills.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Write content as assigned for by the team leaders.
- When required, conduct in-depth research on assigned subjects from knowledgeable and factual content.
- Ensure all facts, dates, and statistics in the content are accurate and current.
- Follow and adhere to the organization’s style guide to maintain consistency across all content.
- Make concerted effort to understand the target audience to tailor content accordingly, ensuring it resonates with readers.
- Work within the PCF editorial calendar and meet strict deadlines.
- Incorporate feedback from editors and department leaders to continually improve the quality of work.
About You
You are energetic, organized, and driven, with experience writing meaningful prose. You have an endless desire to produce accurate, relevant, and engaging content, understanding that it must be tailored to your audience and aligned to the organization's purpose. You have:
- Bachelor's degree (journalism or communications preferred).
- 2-3 years relevant experience writing.
- Ability to manage and work under tight deadlines.
- Exceptional writing skills, above-average grammar, and a keen eye for detail.
- Previous professional experience in writing or related field required.
- You must have a portfolio of work we can review as part of the selection process.

- Expectations regarding a time commitment are in the range 4-6 hours per week, however assignments are given 2 weeks to produce an initial draft, and 1 additional week for revisions if necessary.
